Knot Tying

October Knot of the Month
Well since October is the beginning of this blog, were going to start out with the knot that is synonymous with a Boy Scout.  It is the first knot we all learn as a Scout the one we can do one handed, with our eyes shut or tie behind our backs, the famous Square Knot!

The Square Knot is a simple binding knot used to secure a rope or line around an object.
How to tie the Square Knot

Holding 2 ropes of the same size with 1 in each hand, place the Right rope over the left rope and complete an Overhand Knot (like the first part of tying your shoes.)
Then, take the Left rope and go over the top of the Right rope and complete a second Overhand Knot.
Pull tight and it should be in the shape of a square/rectangle! You should also be able to grab the 2 parallel ends  sticking out of each side of the square and push them to the inside and have the whole knot come loose, only to be pulled back together nice and tight!
Simplified: Right over left, Left over right. Pull it tight!
Be sure not to confuse this with the Thief Knot!
